Where do you get stands like that for them? They're awesome but not as awesome as your work! <3 it!

My boyfriend makes them for me- they are wood plaques you can find in a craft store, and a durable wire. He sands, then stains/paints the base, and shapes the wire to fit each doll.

What type of yarn do you use?

Worsted weight acrylics, nothing fancy. Mostly Red Heart and Bernat.

The samurai's skin is Red Heart's "Buff", I use that more than anything else.
Waverly for Bernat's "Antique" is another good slightly darker one, and Red Heart's "Warm Brown" is another.
Good skin tones in yarn are hard to find, I'm always looking for more

If you go by a book store, check out AmiguruMe by Alison hoffman, on page twelve is has a bunch of suggestions, but only two red heart suggestions. For consistencies sake, I want to stick with red heart, but it just doesn't have the pinkish skin tone color of some characters I want to make!
