Unique Character Design Tips
In my opinion, these are the most important factors in any character design: color, concept, shape, simplicity, cohesiveness, repeatability, personality and uniqueness.
Color: Any design with colors all over the place creates too many places for the eye to look. Keep your color design very simple and zen. Looking at the colors shouldn't be jarring or confusing. This isn't to say only use one color, not at all, but try to make sure the ones you use are harmonious. Avoid mixing and matching different saturations of the same color or picking colors that clash with one another.
My rule of thumb: Stick to no more than three base colors and some value variations.
Concept: Your design should have inspiration, even if the inspiration is just your intended character's personality or an interesting object that represents them. Your character could be a bookworm, and that would impact her posture, her clothing, her hairstyle...pretty much everything about her! You can design

FAQ / Custom order info

How much for a custom doll?

Prices vary depending on complexity and details. Typically it's somewhere from $130~230 . To get a price, contact me with reference pictures and info. You can email me at craftytibbles@gmail.com .

What do you need to get started?

I will need a few good reference pictures of the subject- particularly clear pictures of the outfit, hairstyle, and any unique details (tattoos, jewelry, etc). I also take payment up front, through Paypal. They take me 2-3 weeks to make, possibly an extra week or two if I have a list.

I can't crochet, but I want a doll from one of your patterns- how much?

These will usually cost less because I am going from a completed pattern and don't have to customize anything. Contact me for a price.

What yarn do you use for skin tones?

These are some of my favorites so far. I'm always on the lookout for more.

Do you sell your patterns?

Yes, currently my patterns are available through:

Do you do requests?

Maybe, if you have a cool idea you'd like to see done, it could go on my to-do patterns list.

Do you do trades?

Maybe again, if you do/make cool stuff and I've got some free time, I do love trading for interesting and cute things .

Where do you get the bases?

My boyfriend makes them for me- they are wood plaques you can find in a craft store, and a durable wire. He sands, then paints the base, and shapes the wire to fit each doll.

Do you make the tiny glasses?

He makes these too, he's pretty handy. They're also wire bent into shape, and usually sealed together and/or painted. We've got plans to make tutorials for them in the future.

Don't think so, but lately I've been lovin some Lion Brand 24/7 cotton. Most of my stuff is just ol Red Heart or Michael's brand acrylics, but I definitely wanna invest in some nicer cotton stuff

I do so hate this autocorrect. Finer not diner... I've been shopping on Amazon and they have collections of really awesome colors, great for accents or small people. There is also a soft, silky acrylic in rich colors. It is similar to a sports weight.
